Add Helmior to Microsoft Teams

Before you start

• You need to be an admin in Helmior.
• Consent must come from a Microsoft 365 administrator in your organisation, such as a Global Administrator or Cloud Application Administrator.
• If your organisation limits which apps people can add, a Teams administrator needs to allow Helmior in the Teams admin center.

1. Connect Teams (admin consent)

1. In the Helmior dashboard, go to Settings → Integrations.
2. Under Workspaces, find Microsoft Teams and click Connect.
3. Microsoft asks you to sign in and shows the permissions Helmior needs for your organisation. Click Accept.
4. You're sent back to Helmior and the Teams card shows Connected.

Helmior uses its own identity as a bot. It doesn't act as the person who approved it.

Not an admin? Send the Connect link to your Microsoft 365 administrator, or ask them to sign in to Helmior as an admin and do this step.

2. Add Helmior to a team

1. In Microsoft Teams, open Apps and search for Helmior.
2. Click Add and choose Add to a team. Pick the team and the channel.

If Helmior doesn't appear in the Apps search, a Teams administrator needs to allow it. In the Teams admin center, go to Teams apps → Manage apps, find Helmior and set it to Allowed. Also check that your app permission policy lets people use it.

3. Say something so the channel shows up

A Teams bot isn't given a list of your teams and channels. It learns about a channel the first time somebody mentions it there. So in each channel you want to use, send:

@Helmior hello

The channel then appears when you bind a pipeline. Until the channel is bound, Helmior replies that no pipeline is set up there yet. See Bind a channel to a pipeline.

4. Add your teammates

Teams doesn't give Helmior your organisation's directory. A teammate appears in Organization → Add person once they've mentioned Helmior in a connected channel. Until then, Helmior replies "I don't know you yet". So ask each person to say hello, then add them. See Add people so Helmior recognises them.

Talking to Helmior in Teams

• In a channel: type @Helmior and choose it from the suggestions, so it becomes a real mention (highlighted), then write your message. Teams only delivers messages to Helmior when it's mentioned.
• In a reply thread: mention Helmior inside the card's thread to update that card.
• In a personal chat: open Helmior from Apps and ask questions. Personal chats are read-only.
• Files: Helmior can't read files posted in Teams yet. Describe what matters in the message.

Helmior shows a typing indicator while it works.

Frequently asked questions

Why is only the admin consent step needed, and not each user's?

Helmior acts as itself, not on anyone's behalf. It needs the organisation's permission to exist in your tenant, and nothing from individual users.

Can Helmior read earlier messages in a Teams channel?

No. That would need organisation-wide permission to read all Teams messages, which a chat app shouldn't ask for. Helmior sees only the messages that mention it, so name the card you mean.

Does Helmior work in Teams group chats and meetings chats?

Helmior is designed for team channels, where a pipeline can be bound. Personal chats with Helmior work for questions.

I typed @Helmior but nothing happened.

Make sure you chose Helmior from the suggestions. If you just type the text, it isn't a mention and Teams won't deliver the message. See Helmior isn't replying.
