Add Helmior to Telegram

Before you start

• You need to be an admin in Helmior.
• In Telegram, you need to be able to add members to the group. In some groups only group admins can do that.

1. Connect Telegram

1. In the Helmior dashboard, go to Settings → Integrations.
2. Under Workspaces, find Telegram and click Connect.

There's nothing to paste. Once it's connected, the card shows the bot's @handle and an add to group link.

2. Add the bot to your group

Telegram bots can't join groups by themselves; a person has to add them.

• Easiest: click the add to group link on the Telegram card. Telegram opens and asks which group; pick it and confirm.
• Or by hand: in the group, tap the group name → Add members, search for the bot's @handle, and add it.

Helmior doesn't need to be a group admin.

3. Say something so the group shows up

Telegram doesn't give bots a list of their groups. Helmior learns about a group once somebody writes to it there:

@your_helmior_bot hello

Then bind the group to a pipeline. See Bind a channel to a pipeline.

4. Add your teammates

A teammate appears in Organization → Add person once they've written to Helmior in a connected group. Ask each person to say hello, then add them. See Add people so Helmior recognises them.

Talking to Helmior in Telegram

• Mention it: @your_helmior_bot new Acme Ltd, needs a quote. Use the handle shown on the Telegram card.
• Or reply to it: replying to one of Helmior's messages counts as talking to it, so you don't need to mention it again.
• Threads: in a group with Topics turned on, each topic is its own thread. In an ordinary group the whole group is one conversation, so name the card you mean.
• Files: send a photo or document with a caption that mentions Helmior, and it reads both.
• Direct message: open a chat with the bot to ask questions. DMs are read-only.

Helmior shows "typing…" and what it's doing while it works.

Frequently asked questions

Helmior was added but doesn't respond in our group.

Remove the bot from the group and add it back. Telegram fixes a bot's settings for a group when it joins, so a bot that was added before Helmior's setup was finished can stay deaf until it's added again. Then check Helmior isn't replying.

Can I use my own Telegram bot instead?

No. Every workspace uses Helmior's own bot, which is why there's nothing to paste when you connect.

Does Helmior work in Telegram channels (broadcast channels)?

No. It works in groups and supergroups, where your team can write to it.
